RULES AND CONSEQUENCES
RULES:
BE ON TIME- This means that the student should be sitting in their chair when the final bell rings. No sprinting from the door. When the bell rings, all students should have their disks and paperwork and be ready to work. Assignments are always posted.
BE PRODUCTIVE- Students are to be ready to work when the bell rings. They are not to waste time, talking excessively or wandering around the classroom. Attention is to be given to the task as all times.
BE PREPARED- Students will bring required materials, including writing utensils and paper, to every class. It is the student’s responsibility to keep track of assignments and due dates. This includes your portfolio, which will house all assignments for this class.
BE SAFE- This means absolutely NO HORSEPLAY or running in the lab. It also includes common courtesy and no violence of any kind. In our lab, I do not allow food, drink or gum at any time in the lab. This is for the safety of all present.
BE RESPECTFUL- This rule is one of common courtesy. The teacher will treat all students with respect and the student will treat the teacher with respect. No put-down remarks, foul language, rude comments or noises. No typing or talking when the teacher is talking.
CONSEQUENCES:
VERBAL WARNING- This is first acknowledgment of inappropriate behavior. The teacher will verbalize the rule that has been broken, requesting the student to modify his/her behavior.
DETENTION- If the behavior persists, then the student will be required to spend detention. The first detention will be 15 minutes after school. The second time will be 30 minutes, the third, 45 minutes. We will continue to work together on the problem.
PARENT CONTACT- When verbal warning and detention do not help adjust the student’s behavior, parent contact will be made. This may be by phone call or letter home. This is to activate a team effort, with parent cooperation to change the student’s behavior.
REFERRAL- This is the final step. When the student no longer responds to any of the above consequences, this action must be taken. It may result in lunch detention, in school suspension, or other consequences outlined in the student handbook. This step is used immediately for any serious actions.
