Video Production & Web Design

Projects can be done in any order, however, many require pre-requisites in order to complete the main projects. Some assumption is made that each student has a basic knowledge of how to learn and willingness to learn a new program and basic word processing techniques. Much of the learning is independent as many students will be working on a variety of projects. The need for this type of structure is to utilize the few cameras we have and still produce the announcements every day.

There will be one project due each quarter. The first quarter will be the pre-requisite videos.

Links to all forms used in class are given. Do not print unless there are no copies available in the class file. Check with your teacher.

·        Acting is optional but encouraged, extra credit will be given.

·        Everyone must edit at least one day’s announcements, more is preferred.

·        Directions and job descriptions are posted in the classroom.

Evaluation: Evaluations and grades will be given on camera operators and editing. Acting is extra credit. (Click for rubrics.)

Video Production

This is a collection of videos that are produced by the student to add to the news cast and to create a showcase product.

All projects require advance planning and approval of the instructor. Do not continue on a project until steps are approved, or you could be wasting time. Click here to download the storyboard for the video projects.

Objective: Create a minimum of 3 videos. The in depth video is extra credit for 1st semester students and required for 2nd semester students.

  1. Announcement Video - Create s 30 – 60 second production (outside of the newscast) that is an announcement. It could be an event or celebration taking place here at school. It could be an idea from a teacher or administrator of a campus issue. This would be shown as part of the newscast as a supplemental item. This is a planned production, not an additional segment at the last minute. Other ideas available from your instructor. Link to rubric and self-evaluation.

  2. Character Counts Video - Create a 1 to 2 minute production that supports a positive character counts word. Use the web to gather information and make it relative to Jepson students. Let’s change poor behavior! This would be shown during the announcements. Link to rubric and self-evaluation.

  3. Instructional Video This video will be used to give instruction in something appropriate for students. It can be created from practical experience or learning a new hobby or activity. It can be from 3-5 minutes long. Link to rubric and self-evaluation.

  4. In-Depth Video (extra credit for 1st semester, required for 2nd semester) - Create an in-depth video production on an issue that faces teens today OR a curriculum based, informational subject. You could also create an instructional, how-to video (with any choice of audience age.) This should be at least three to five minutes long. It will require research and planning to create the right piece.  Link to rubric and self-evaluation.

Web Page Design

Note: At this time, this portion of the curriculum is set aside. If a student has a desire to complete a web site as a project (topic within the guidelines of the school's needs), then it can substituted for one of the video projects or added on as extra credit. See the teacher for possible subject matter.

We use the program, Front Page, to create and edit web pages. Many teachers update their own pages, but many don’t have the time and would like your assistance. It isn’t very time consuming when broken down into segments, but does require students to be in constant touch with their teachers. This is extra credit and done at the student's discretion

Pre-requisite for web page design

Create a simple three page web site about yourself using Front Page.

Include at least 3 linked pages
· One outside link
· Use of color – text, background, borders
· Images – photos, gifs, animated gifs
· Use of table to organize info on page
· Variety of appropriate fonts

Organized web site folder (gifs in own folder)

Instructions on how to create a curricular based web site.

·

Objective: Assist at least one teacher or club in updating and maintaining their web site. You may also do a curricular based web site. Check with your teacher for ideas.

Be in constant contact with the teacher for updates and information.

Evaluation: The individual teachers you have helped will assist in providing a grade for this portion. Link to Web Page Rubric and self-evaluation.
