Teaching is a lifetime career
for me. There isn't a day in teaching that goes by without my learning
something new. The constant freshness and excitement contributes to my
support of life-long learning. We, as teachers, need to learn and grow
with our students. We can no longer be the sole source of all information.
By changing our classrooms to problem solving centers of interest for our
students, we give the gift of helping them become life long learners and
contributors to society.
I teach for the joy of impacting my student's lives, even in a small way. No matter what the student's age, seeing the light of understanding come on in a person's eyes is reward for me. I want to support and/or change the way students view the learning process. Students can come to class, be given information and do nothing with that information. But when a student takes that information, internalizes it, changes the way they view an event or think about a subject, then it becomes knowledge and something useful to them. When a student wants to seek knowledge and be excited about learning, then I have impacted their lives and I know that I have made a difference. |
